How do I transfer data from my old SSD to New SSD?

  1. Purchase a compatible SSD: You’ll need to find an SSD that is compatible with your MacBook Air 2015 model. You can find compatible SSDs from our website TEKDEP.
  2. If possible, create a backup of your data: Before removing your old SSD, it is reccomended to create a backup of your data. You can use the built-in Time Machine backup feature or a third-party backup software.
  3. Shut down your MacBook Air: Make sure to save your work and shut down your MacBook Air.
  4. Open the MacBook Air: Use a Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the screws from the bottom case of your MacBook Air. Carefully remove the bottom case.
  5. Remove the old SSD: Locate the old SSD and remove it carefully from its socket.
  6. Install the new SSD: Insert the new SSD into the socket and secure it in place. Replace the bottom case and screw it back in place.
  7. Boot up your MacBook Air: Turn on your MacBook Air and hold down the Command + R keys to enter into the Recovery mode.
  8. Connect the old SSD: Connect your old SSD to your MacBook Air using an external enclosure or adapter.
  9. Transfer data: From the Recovery mode, select the option to restore from a Time Machine backup or transfer data from a different Mac or volume. Follow the on-screen instructions to transfer your data from the old SSD to the new one.
  10. Finish the process: Once the data transfer is complete, your MacBook Air should be ready to use with your new SSD.

Required Tools For Apple 11″ MacBook Air, A1465 Family Repairs:

Note: Before you begin, make sure to drain you laptop battery completely by keeping it on till it dies. Then, unplug your power adapter, and disconnect the battery before performing any repair and always wear safety glasses & anti-static nitrile gloves.

  1. Pentalobe screwdriver (P5): The bottom case uses a proprietary type of screw called a Pentalobe screw. This type of speciality screwdriver is required in removing the bottom case and begin the repair.
  2. Torx screwdriver (T4, T5): Speciality Torx bits are needed to remove the screws that hold the MacBook components such as the I/O Board, MagSafe, Audio Board, fans, trackpad, Battery and more.
  3. Torx screwdriver (T8):  A T8 Torx screwdriver is also needed to remove the screws that hold the LCD Hinges in place, this is needed to remove and replace the LCD assembly on the A1465.
  4. Spudger: A spudger is a tool that helps you pry apart parts of the MacBook Pro without damaging them, you’ll need a spudger to disconnect the various cables and connectors inside the 11″ MacBook Air A1465.
  5. Tweezers: Some of the connectors inside the MacBook Air A1465 are very small, you’ll need a pair of tweezers to disconnect and reconnect them.

Note:  Disassembling a MacBook Pro can be challenging, it’s important to be very careful to avoid damaging the delicate components inside. If you’re not comfortable performing this type of repair, it’s best to take your MacBook Pro to a professional.
