REPAIR TIME & SKILL LEVEL

This repair is estimated to take about 1  to 2 hours to complete and is of ADVANCED difficulty, requiring experience with delicate components and strong knowledge of phone disassembly.

STEPS:

Tools You Need

For this teardown, you will need a heat pad (set to 80°C), isopropyl alcohol, a plastic card or curved screen disassembler, a Phillips screwdriver, and precision tweezers.

Heat and Prepare the Device

  • Turn on the heat pad and set it to 80°C.
  • Apply isopropyl alcohol along the edges of the outer screen to loosen the adhesive.

Remove the Outer Screen

  • Use a plastic card or curved screen disassembler to gently separate the screen from the housing.
  • Slowly work around the edges, applying more alcohol as needed to prevent cracking.

Remove the Back Glass

  • Apply heat and isopropyl alcohol along the back panel.
  • Use a plastic tool to pry up the back glass carefully—this section has less resistance than the screen.

Remove Screws and Covers

  • Unscrew all Phillips screws securing the NFC antenna, wireless pad, and main board covers.
  • Set the screws aside in an organized manner to avoid misplacement.

Disconnect the Battery

  • Before touching any components, disconnect the battery to prevent electrical damage.

Disconnect Ribbon Cables

  • The Fold 4 has multiple ribbon cables connecting various components.
  • Carefully detach the main flex board cable and sub-flex cable from the main board.

Remove the Charging Port Assembly

  • Unscrew and remove the charging port assembly, being mindful of the antenna module at the top.

Remove the Loudspeakers

  • The Fold 4 has a two-piece loudspeaker—one for each section of the phone.
  • Gently lift them out after disconnecting their flex cables.

Remove the Front Camera Module

  • Disconnect and lift out the front camera module, ensuring it remains intact for reinstallation.

Extract the Hinge Components (If Needed)

  • If replacing the hinge or performing deeper repairs, disconnect the hinge flex cables carefully.

Reattach the Covers and Screws

  • Secure the NFC antenna, wireless pad, and protective covers with their corresponding screws.

Reinstall the Outer Screen and Back Glass

  • Apply fresh adhesive and reattach the outer screen and back glass securely.
  • Power on the device to confirm a successful repair.
