Tools You Need

  • Torx Allen key (provided with the motherboard mounting kit)
  • Phillips screwdriver

  • Y-splitter fan cable
  • Power supply cables
  • Cable management tools (zip ties or Velcro straps)

Remove Stock Mounting Mechanism

  • The first step in any PC build is to prepare the motherboard by removing the stock mounting mechanism. This involves unscrewing the four screws securing the original bracket using the Torx Allen key provided. Be careful not to damage the motherboard.
  • Some builders prefer installing the CPU before this step to prevent damage to the pins, but it’s not strictly necessary if you take proper care.

Install the CPU

  • Open the CPU box and remove the processor. Align the triangle on the CPU with the one on the motherboard socket to ensure proper orientation.

  • Connect the fans to the motherboard using a Y-splitter to ensure synchronized operation, and then plug them into the CPU fan header.

Install the Motherboard in the Case

  • Carefully align the motherboard with the I/O shield and standoffs in the case. Ensure the ports are properly lined up with the cutout for the I/O shield.
  • Secure the motherboard with screws in an “X” pattern for even mounting. Avoid overtightening.

Connect Front Panel Cables

  • Route the front panel connectors, including USB 3.0, Type C, and HD Audio cables. Make sure the pins align correctly according to the motherboard manual.
  • Be cautious with the front panel connectors as they can be fragile and easy to misalign.

Install the Graphics Card

  • With the PCIe slot clear, insert the EVGA 1080 Ti graphics card, ensuring it clicks into place.
  • Secure the card with screws to prevent sagging, especially important with heavy GPUs.

Install the Power Supply

  • Slide the modular power supply into place and begin connecting the necessary cables, including the 24-pin and 8-pin for the CPU.
  • Route cables neatly and ensure that all connections are secure before moving on.

Final Assembly and Cable Management

  • Connect the remaining power cables, including those for the GPU and storage devices. Use cable management tools to keep everything organized behind the motherboard tray.
