This repair is estimated to take about 2 to 3 hours to complete and is of MODERATE difficulty, requiring basic knowledge of PC components and installation procedures.

STEPS:

Tools You Need

To complete this build, you will need a screwdriver, thermal paste, an anti-static wrist strap, and the tools provided with your PC components. Make sure to work on a flat, static-free surface for optimal results.

Prepare the Motherboard

  • Unbox and remove the ASRock B450M motherboard from its ESD protective bag.
  • Examine the motherboard, noting the placement of the CPU socket, RAM slots, fan headers, and expansion slots.
  • Set aside the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas, rear IO shield, and M.2 SSD screw for later.

Install the CPU

  • Open the CPU socket and align the triangles on both the CPU and motherboard.
  • Carefully place the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X processor in the socket and secure it.
  • Close the CPU socket latch.

Install the RAM

  • Align the RAM’s notch with the motherboard slot and press down firmly until it clicks into place.

Place the M.2 SSD

  • Carefully insert the 1TB M.2 SSD into its slot on the motherboard.
  • Use the included screw to secure it in place.

Prepare the CPU Cooler

  • Open the stock cooler box and separate the hardware.
  • Install the spacers and mounting bracket on the AM4 socket.
  • Attach the thermal paste to the CPU, spreading it evenly.

Mount the Cooler

  • Attach the cooler bracket and tighten the screws to secure it.
  • Install the cooler onto the CPU, ensuring it’s firmly attached.
  • Attach the fan clips and position the fan on the cooler.

Deploy the Rear I/O Shield

  • Install the rear I/O shield into the case, making sure it is aligned correctly.

Set up the Motherboard

  • Place the motherboard into the case, aligning the rear I/O ports with the shield.
  • Screw the motherboard into place, securing it with the mounting screws.

Connect Front Panel Headers

  • Route the front panel connectors (power button, reset switch, USB, etc.) through the grommets.
  • Connect each header to its corresponding pins on the motherboard.

Position the Graphics Card

  • Remove the required PCI slot covers on the case for the GPU.
  • Insert the Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 TI Founders Edition into the top PCIe 16x slot.
  • Secure the GPU to the case with the provided screws.

Install the Power Supply

  • Install the 500W power supply into the case and secure it.
  • Connect the power cables to the motherboard, CPU, and GPU.
  • Tidy up the cables for optimal airflow.

Power Up and Test

  • Plug in the power supply and press the power button to test the build.
  • If everything powers on correctly, proceed with installing the operating system.
