OVERVIEW:

In today’s teardown guide, we’re disassembling the HP Pavilion 15t-eg0. This teardown was performed to remove the logic board for a future repair. We’ll walk through the detailed steps of disassembling this laptop, removing components like the battery, RAM, SSD, speakers, and LCD. If you follow the steps carefully, you’ll be able to completely disassemble your Pavilion safely. Let’s dive right into the teardown process!

REPAIR TIME & SKILL LEVEL:

This repair is estimated to take about 2-3 HOURS to complete and is of INTERMEDIATE difficulty, requiring careful disconnection of delicate flex cables and removal of internal components with precision.

STEPS:

Tools You Need

For this repair, you will need a Phillips head screwdriver, a guitar pick or plastic pry tool for safe case removal, and a plastic spudger for disconnecting delicate cables without causing damage.

Remove Rubber Strips and Bottom Screws

  • Start by removing the glued-on rubber strips on the bottom of the laptop.
  • Under the rubber strips, locate and remove two sets of Phillips head screws, plus two more screws near the front.
  • Set the screws aside carefully to avoid losing them.

Separate the Bottom Case

  • Use a guitar pick, plastic spudger, or similar tool to unlatch the bottom case from the top case.
  • Carefully work your way around the edges to fully detach the bottom panel.
  • Set the bottom case aside safely.

Disconnect and Remove the Battery

  • Locate and remove the six Phillips head screws securing the battery.
  • Note that two screw spots are empty due to the trackpad housing.
  • Lift the battery straight up and set it aside.

Remove RAM and SSD

  • For the RAM, push outward on the two retention clips on each stick to release them.
  • To remove the SSD, unscrew the single Phillips head screw and gently lift it away from the thermal pad beneath.
  • Be cautious when removing to avoid damaging the drive.

Remove Wi-Fi Card

  • Peel off the glued-down cover over the Wi-Fi card.
  • Disconnect the Wi-Fi antenna cables using a spudger.
  • Remove the Phillips head screw securing the Wi-Fi card and lift it out.

Disconnect Internal Cables

  • Disconnect the keyboard ribbon by flipping up the retention bar and pulling the cable out.
  • Disconnect the keyboard backlight, trackpad cable, and fingerprint sensor cable in the same manner.
  • Also disconnect the IO board, charging port cable, LCD cable, and speaker cable.
  • Finally, disconnect the CPU fan cable.

Remove Logic Board Screws

  • Unscrew all Phillips head screws securing the logic board to the top case.
  • Remove the screw that holds the CPU cooling fan in place.
  • Lift out the cooling fan and set it aside.
  • Carefully lift out the logic board and set it aside.

Remove Daughter Board and Cable

  • Remove the three Phillips screws holding the daughter board in place.
  • Disconnect and remove the daughter board flex cable carefully.

Detach Speakers

  • Each speaker is held by one Phillips screw; remove them carefully.
  • Untangle the speaker wires from the securing points while removing to avoid damage.

Take away the LCD Assembly

  • Unscrew the two sets of two screws holding the LCD to the top case.
  • Open the unit and untangle the Wi-Fi antenna wires secured to the case.
  • Carefully lift the LCD assembly away once wires are free.

Take out the Charging Port

  • Pull the charging port straight up to remove it from its slot.

Additional Removable Parts

  • Fingerprint Sensor: Remove one Phillips screw to replace it if necessary.
  • Trackpad: Remove four visible screws and hidden screws under Tessa tape to replace the trackpad.
  • Kensington Lock: Replaceable if needed, but rarely used today.
  • LCD Panel: Remove the bottom cover and pop off the LCD frame to access the physical display and hinges.
