STEPS:

Tools You Need

For this repair, you will need a Phillips head screwdriver, a plastic pry tool for safely opening the case, and possibly tweezers for reconnecting flex cables. No specialized or proprietary tools are needed for this repair.


Remove Rubber Feet and Hidden Screws

  • Flip the laptop over and remove the two rubber feet located at the top corners of the bottom cover to reveal hidden screws underneath.
  • Carefully pry and remove the plastic center cover to access more screws.
  • Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove three screws at the top and three screws at the front near the touchpad area.

Pry Open the Bottom Case

  • Open the unit and use a plastic pry tool around the edge where the silver and black materials meet.
  • Gently separate the top case from the bottom shell; be mindful of the broken hinge that may still be holding the case together.
  • Before fully removing the top case, disconnect the trackpad and keyboard flex cables.

Remove the Battery

  • Disconnect the IO board connector from the motherboard.
  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws holding down the battery, including one screw hidden beneath a cable.
  • Lift the battery out of the chassis once all screws are removed.

Disconnect All Internal Cables

  • Carefully unplug the following: power button cable, LCD connector, speaker cables, webcam and microphone connector, Wi-Fi antennas, charging port, and hard drive connector.
  • Take care not to damage any flex cables during this process.

Remove the Speakers

  • Although optional, remove the three screws securing the speakers to simplify access to internal components.
  • Detach the speaker cable clips before setting the speakers aside.

Remove the Wi-Fi Card

  • Unscrew the Wi-Fi card from the bottom of the motherboard. This screw also holds down the logic board.

Reconnect Internal Components

  • Plug in the power button, LCD, and other flex cables.
  • Begin cable management, especially for the Wi-Fi antennas and webcam/microphone cables.
  • Secure the charging port and plug in the speakers.

Reinstall Speakers and Wi-Fi Card

  • Position the speakers back into place and secure them with the three Phillips screws.
  • Tighten them enough to prevent rattling, but avoid over-tightening.
  • Secure the Wi-Fi card with its silver screw.

Reinstall the Battery

  • Place the battery back into position.
  • Secure it before plugging in the IO board, as one screw will be covered after connection.

Reattach Top Case
