In this guide, we’ll walk you through the assembly of the Dark Matter gaming PC, which is designed for top-tier gaming performance. The build includes an Intel i9-14900KF processor, 64GB of DDR5 RAM, a 2TB NVMe SSD, and an AMD RX 7800 XT graphics card. The PC is housed in the Thermaltake Tower 300 case, which offers excellent cooling and aesthetic appeal.

REPAIR TIME & SKILL LEVEL:

This build is estimated to take about 2 to 3 hours to complete and is of INTERMEDIATE difficulty, requiring basic knowledge of PC components and assembly.


STEPS:

Tools You Need

To assemble the Dark Matter PC, you’ll need a Phillips screwdriver, thermal paste (if not pre-applied), and some cable management tools like zip ties.


Unbox and Prepare the Motherboard

  • Unbox the motherboard and remove all accessories.
  • Take out the Wi-Fi antennas, SATA cables, RGB splitters, and the small internal I/O board.
  • Keep the accessories aside for later.

Install the CPU

  • Open the CPU socket on the motherboard.
  • Align the small triangle on the CPU with the triangle on the socket.
  • Drop the CPU in, making sure it seats properly, and close the socket.

Install the 2TB NVMe SSD

  • Use a screwdriver to remove screws securing the thermal pad cover on the SSD tray.
  • Remove the SSD from the protective tray, install it into the slot, and replace the thermal pad cover.

Position the Backplate for the CPU Cooler

  • Open the cooler packaging and locate the backplate for Intel LGA 1700 sockets.
  • Attach the backplate to the motherboard, ensuring the standoffs match the socket type.

Mount the CPU Cooler

  • Install the cooler’s mounting hardware.
  • Attach the cooler’s pump to the motherboard and secure it using screws in a cross-pattern to ensure even pressure.

Install the RAM

  • Open the RAM slots on the motherboard.
  • Line up the notches and click both RAM sticks into place.

Install the AIO Cooler and Fans

  • Mount the 360mm AIO cooler in place.
  • Attach the fans to the radiator using longer screws.
  • Plug in the fan splitter to connect the fan wires to the motherboard.

Manage Cables and Install the Motherboard

  • Prepare the case by removing unnecessary components.
  • Install the motherboard standoffs and slot the motherboard into place.
  • Screw in the motherboard using the appropriate screws for the ITX form factor.

Install the Graphics Card

  • Remove the necessary PCIe slot covers from the case.
  • Slot the graphics card into the PCIe slot and secure it with screws.

Install the Power Supply

  • Install the power supply bracket and mount the PSU with the fan facing down for optimal airflow.
  • Plug in all necessary power cables, including the 8-pin EPS and 24-pin motherboard power cables.

Finalize Cable Management

  • Organize and route all cables neatly inside the case to ensure good airflow.
  • Double-check all connections, including those for front panel I/O and USB.
