REPAIR TIME & SKILL LEVEL:

This repair is estimated to take about 1.5 to 2 hours to complete and is of INTERMEDIATE difficulty, requiring careful handling of fragile cables and proper tool usage.

STEPS:

Tools You Need

For this repair, you will need a T5 Torx screwdriver for bottom case screws, a Phillips head screwdriver for internal mounting screws, a T8 Torx for the hinge screws, a suction cup to lift the case, and optionally a plastic spudger for safe cable routing and bezel snapping.

Remove Bottom Case Screws

  • Flip the laptop over with the screen closed and use a T5 Torx screwdriver to remove all screws from the bottom panel.
  • These screws secure the back cover and must be fully removed before opening the case.
  • Place the screws aside carefully so you don’t lose any, especially the ones near the center which may differ in length.

Detach Bottom Cover

  • Use a suction cup on the panel and gently lift upward to loosen the bottom case.
  • Once it starts separating, remove the entire bottom cover and set it aside.
  • Flip the laptop back around for interior access.

Disconnect the Battery

  • Locate the battery connector near the center and carefully push it outward.
  • Ensure the battery is fully disconnected before continuing to avoid shorting any components.
  • Double-check that it doesn’t accidentally reconnect during the process.

Remove LCD Mounting Screws

  • With the laptop open, use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws holding the LCD and webcam assemblies in place.
  • Be mindful of the screws you remove—some are tucked near the hinges or edges.
  • There is one extra screw hidden near the top corner that is easy to miss—remove it before proceeding.

Open the Hinge Assembly

  • Carefully open the laptop like normal and lift the screen away.
  • Check for cables still attached beneath the cooler or near the hinges.
  • A webcam flex cable is routed under the CPU cooler and must be addressed before full screen removal.

Tilt and Secure the CPU Cooler

  • Loosen and tilt the heatsink just enough to expose the webcam cable without removing it completely.
  • Screw it lightly back into place so it doesn’t flop or leak thermal paste.
  • This is a temporary position to allow safe rerouting later.

Remove the LCD Assembly

  • With all connections detached, remove the entire LCD assembly and set it aside.
  • Be careful not to damage any surrounding components as you lift the panel free.
  • Make note of the way the cables were originally routed for easier reassembly.

Unscrew LCD from Frame

  • Begin removing the LCD from the screen frame by popping up a corner of the adhesive trim.
  • Remove the T8 Torx screws along the sides and a single Phillips screw in the center.
  • Keep these screws organized, as they are essential to reattaching the new panel securely.

Unbox and Prep New LCD

  • Open the replacement LCD and inspect it for any shipping damage.
  • Remove any included daughterboards if they differ from the original—reuse the original board where needed.
  • Confirm that flex cables and connectors are undamaged and compatible.

Reconnect Webcam and Flex Cables

  • Make sure all cable gates are open before inserting connectors.
  • Plug in the webcam cable and both touchscreen flex cables gently into their corresponding slots.
  • Tilt the controller board to gain better access and insert each flex carefully—these are very fragile.

Secure the New LCD

  • Begin screwing down the panel starting with the Phillips screw in the center.
  • Follow up with the T8 screws on each side, making sure everything is flush and aligned.
  • Adjust and flatten out any bunched cables before proceeding.

Reattach Screen Trim Bezel

  • Take the trim bezel and align it to the top of the LCD.
  • Snap the top side in first—it’s usually easier—then work your way around to the bottom.
  • Ensure the rubber lip along the screen perimeter is aligned properly with the trim piece.

Position and Close Top Case

  • Reattach the top case by lining it up with the hinges first.
  • Carefully close the hinges while ensuring all cables remain inside the case.
  • Any cables caught on the outside can get pinched or damaged during use.

Route Touchscreen Cable

  • Go back to the CPU cooler and remove it to route the touchscreen cable properly.
  • Slide the flex cable beneath and ensure it does not obstruct or press against other components.
  • Once routed, reinstall the cooler.

Reinstall the CPU Cooler

  • Use the numbered order on the screws: 1, 2, then 3 for tightening.
  • Tighten the screws gradually and evenly to ensure proper contact and avoid damage.
  • Do not overtighten, especially if you’re reusing the original thermal paste.

Reconnect LCD Connector

  • With everything in place, reconnect the LCD cable near the hinges.
  • Press it in until it clicks and verify the latch or gate is secured.
  • Tug lightly to confirm a firm connection.

Secure Hinges and Screws

  • Screw the hinges back into the chassis using the original screws.
  • Double-check alignment of the hinges so the screen opens and closes smoothly.
  • If the hinges feel too tight or uneven, adjust the screws accordingly.

Reattach Bottom Case

  • Place the bottom panel back onto the unit and press down until you hear clicks around the perimeter.
  • Reinstall all T5 screws—note that the longer screws near the center go along the edges.
  • Finish by flipping the device over and verifying fit and alignment.

CONCLUSION:

That wraps up the full LCD replacement for the Lenovo Yoga 9i. This repair requires careful disassembly and reconnection of several small and delicate parts, but with patience and the right tools, it can be completed successfully at home. Always pay attention to cable routing and connector positions to avoid accidental damage. With your new screen installed, your device should now be fully functional again. Test all functions before finalizing.
