REPAIR TIME & SKILL LEVEL:

This repair is estimated to take about 2–3 HOURS to complete and is of ADVANCED difficulty, requiring strong technical skill and careful handling of internal components like ribbon cables and thermal materials.

STEPS:

Tools You Need

For this repair, you will need a Torx T5 screwdriver to remove the bottom screws, a Phillips screwdriver for internal screws, and a plastic spudger or tweezers for safe disconnection of ribbon cables and small connectors.

Remove the Bottom Plate

  • Use a Torx T5 screwdriver to remove the 10 screws securing the bottom plate.
  • Carefully lift the bottom cover away from the chassis.
  • Set the plate aside in a safe spot for reassembly.

Disconnect and Remove the Battery

  • Locate the battery connector and gently pull it out to disconnect it.
  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove all screws securing the battery frame.
  • Lift the battery out of its slot and set it aside.

Detach Display and Wi-Fi Cables

  • Disconnect the display cables that run from the base to the display assembly.
  • Gently unplug each cable and ensure they’re out of the way for the next steps.
  • Disconnect the antenna cables connected to the network card.

Remove the Network Card

  • Unscrew the network card using a Phillips screwdriver.
  • Lift it slightly and slide it out of the M.2 slot.
  • Set it aside carefully.

Remove the RAM

  • Use your fingers to pull apart the metal clips on each side of the RAM stick.
  • The RAM will pop up at an angle — remove it by pulling outward.
  • Store it in an anti-static bag if replacing.

Remove the SSD

  • Unscrew the M.2 NVMe SSD using a Phillips screwdriver.
  • Gently slide it out from its slot.
  • Keep it in a safe place to prevent electrostatic discharge.

Remove the Speakers

  • Each speaker is secured with two screws — remove them.
  • Disconnect the small speaker connectors from the motherboard.
  • Take both speakers out and place them safely aside.

Remove Hinge Covers

  • Locate the two plastic hinge covers on either side of the hinge.
  • Each cover is held by two Phillips screws — remove the screws.
  • Lift off each plastic hinge cover to expose the hinge assembly.

Disconnect the Hinges

  • Remove two Phillips screws from each hinge bracket.
  • Carefully tilt and open the display slightly to release the hinges from the base.
  • Note how the antenna cables are routed — free them from clips or slots in the chassis.

Remove Camera and Display Cables

  • Start by gently pulling the small camera cable through the slot in the bottom case.
  • Next, guide the larger display ribbon cable through the same slot.
  • Once both cables are through, the display can be fully separated from the base.

Remove the Fans

  • Each cooling fan is secured with two screws and a motherboard connector.
  • Remove the screws and disconnect the cables one by one.
  • Lift the fans and remove them from the chassis.

Remove the Heatsink

  • Remove the screws from the center and sides of the heatsink (including those under rubber covers).
  • Carefully pry up the heatsink as it may be stuck due to thermal paste.
  • Once loosened, lift it out and set it aside.

Prepare to Remove the Motherboard

  • Remove any remaining cable covers and disconnect all remaining ribbon cables.
  • Use a spudger or tweezers to carefully flip up each ribbon connector latch and slide the cables out.
  • Double-check for any hidden cables or screws still connected.

Remove the Motherboard

  • Once all connectors are free, lift the motherboard from the chassis.
  • Flip it over to inspect both sides, and remove any remaining protective covers.
  • Place it in a safe anti-static environment if not reinstalling.

Inspect Top Case Components

  • Examine the now-empty top case — keyboard and trackpad are not modular in this model.
  • Note that these parts are clipped and cannot be easily replaced individually.
  • Full top case replacement is required for keyboard issues.
