Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – How to Replace a Broken Display Using an Automatic Disassembler

OVERVIEW:

Replacing the display assembly on the Samsung S22 Ultra requires precision and patience. This guide will walk you through the step-by-step process to safely remove the old screen and install a new one. The repair involves removing multiple screws, disconnecting various flex cables, and handling delicate components such as the motherboard and battery. Following the correct procedure is crucial to avoid damaging internal parts. With the right tools and careful execution, you can successfully complete this repair.

REPAIR TIME & SKILL LEVEL:

This repair is estimated to take about 1 to 2 hours to complete and is of ADVANCED difficulty, requiring experience in handling delicate internal components and working with adhesives.

STEPS:

Tools You Need

For this repair, you will need a licensed Samsung screen disassembler with upper and lower temperatures set to 70°C and 65°C respectively, a Philips screwdriver (1.5mm), a plastic spudger for safe disconnection, a pry tool or plastic card for removing the back glass, isopropyl alcohol to dissolve battery adhesive, a heat gun, and a tiny blade pry tool for the front camera.

Remove the Back Glass

  • Place the phone in the Samsung disassembler and set upper/lower temperatures to 70°C and 65°C.
  • Press the “V” and “Move” buttons on the machine to initiate the removal process.
  • Alternatively, you can use a heat gun and plastic card to remove the back manually with care.

Lift Off the Back Cover

  • Use a plastic spudger around the heated edge to gently loosen the adhesive.
  • Lift the back glass upward slowly once loosened.
  • Ensure adhesive separates cleanly to prevent cracking.

Remove All Screws from Internal Assembly

  • Use the 1.5mm Phillips screwdriver to remove 18 screws from top antenna to bottom speaker.
  • Set screws aside in a labeled tray to keep track of their positions.
  • Make sure all visible screws are removed before proceeding to lift components.

Disconnect the NFC and Wireless Charging Module

  • Gently disconnect the NFC wireless pad from the motherboard.
  • Pry up and remove the wireless charging coil; note that it’s glued to the speaker.
  • Be careful not to tear the flex cable attached to the charging module.

Disconnect the Battery and Display Flex

  • Disconnect the battery connector first to power down all components.
  • Unplug the LCD flex and main board flex cables.
  • Carefully lift out the antenna module linking the main PBA to the sub PBA.

Remove the Bottom Speaker and 5G Module

  • Unscrew and lift the bottom speaker unit out.
  • Disconnect and remove the lower 5G antenna module (present only in US models).
  • Keep track of all antenna connections before removal.

Unscrew and Remove the Charging Board

  • Remove three Phillips screws securing the charging board.
  • Do not forget to remove the SIM tray before lifting out the board.
  • Use a spudger to lift the board gently from the housing.

Disconnect Stylus and Upper Antennas

  • Unplug the flex for the S Pen slot connection.
  • Disconnect the upper 5G antenna module (US version only).
  • Make sure no antenna cables remain connected to the motherboard.

Remove the Motherboard and Camera

  • Lift the motherboard carefully from the frame.
  • Observe four rear cameras mounted on the reverse side.
  • Keep the board flat and avoid touching contacts or lens glass.

Remove the Battery

  • Apply isopropyl alcohol around the battery edges to dissolve adhesive.
  • Use gentle heat and a plastic pry tool to start lifting the battery from the bottom.
  • Pull slowly and carefully to avoid bending the cell.

Remove the Stylus and Front Camera

  • Slide out the stylus pen from its slot.
  • Use a tiny blade pry tool to gently lift the front-facing camera, removing any adhesive carefully.
  • Keep the camera safe for transfer to the new screen.

Remove the Top Speaker

  • Gently pry the top speaker out of its seated housing.
  • Use a plastic spudger to avoid damaging nearby components.
  • Set the speaker aside for reinstallation.

Reinstall the Motherboard and Modules

  • Place the motherboard back into position.
  • Reconnect the 5G modules, stylus port, and charging board.
  • Ensure all flex cables are attached in their original configuration.

Install Battery and Camera on New Screen

  • Reposition the top speaker and secure the front-facing camera in place.
  • Carefully press the battery into the new screen housing.
  • Ensure all adhesive is properly aligned and firm.

Reconnect LCD and Antennas

  • Plug in the LCD flex connector and antenna flex lines.
  • Reattach the NFC wireless charging coil and make sure it connects firmly.
  • Confirm that no flex cables are left unplugged.

Final Assembly and Back Glass

  • Reinsert all 18 screws in reverse order.
  • Heat the back glass and press it into place, ensuring all edges are sealed.
  • Power on the phone to verify that everything works correctly.

CONCLUSION:

Replacing the Samsung S22 Ultra display assembly is a complex process that requires precision and patience. Carefully following each step ensures a successful repair while preventing damage to internal components. Always use OEM parts when possible to maintain full compatibility and device performance.
