REPAIR TIME & SKILL LEVEL:

This repair is estimated to take about 1 to 2 hours to complete and is of MODERATE difficulty, requiring careful handling of adhesive and fragile components. These tools will help you safely remove screws, detach connectors, and transfer components without causing damage.

STEPS:

Tools You Need

Heat gun, Phillips screwdriver, suction cup holder, curved screen disassembler, plastic card, isopropyl alcohol, plastic spudger. These tools will help you safely remove screws, detach connectors, and transfer components without causing damage.

Power Down the Tablet

  • Ensure the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is completely powered off before starting.
  • This prevents short circuits and safeguards internal components during disassembly.
  • Clear your workspace and line up all necessary tools for the procedure.

Heat the Edges of the Display

  • Apply heat around the display edges using a heat gun or heating mat set between 70-90°C.
  • Avoid heating the bezels; instead, focus under the LCD where adhesive is concentrated.
  • Maintain consistent heat distribution to avoid damaging the screen or plastic housing.

Loosen the Display Adhesive

  • Use a suction cup to slightly lift the display from one edge.
  • Insert a plastic card gently into the gap and slide it around the perimeter to cut through the adhesive.
  • Apply isopropyl alcohol if needed to loosen stubborn adhesive underneath the screen.

Separate and Remove the Display

  • Carefully lift the AMOLED display once the adhesive is loosened, being mindful of attached cables.
  • Detach the two flex cables connecting the screen to the internal board.
  • Set aside the 14.6-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen in a safe location, avoiding flex or pressure.

Unscrew the Internal Frame

  • Remove all 45 Phillips screws securing the internal mid-frame structure.
  • Sort screws by region to simplify reassembly later.
  • Lift the frame to access the motherboard and internal components.

Disconnect the Battery First

  • Always disconnect the battery before touching other internals to prevent shorts.
  • Use a spudger to carefully pop off the battery connector from the mainboard.
  • Ensure there’s no power flowing through the board during further disassembly.

Detach All Flex Cables and Coax Cables

  • Disconnect flex cables connecting the mainboard to the charging port, LCD, and keyboard.
  • Remove coaxial antenna cables running across the board.
  • Disconnect volume button, SIM card reader, and loudspeaker connectors.

Remove the Rear Cameras

  • Pry up the rear camera housing, which includes both a wide and ultra-wide lens.
  • Carefully lift the unit from its adhesive and connector socket.
  • Set it aside, ensuring the lens doesn’t get scratched or dusty.

Remove the Front Cameras

  • Remove the dual-lens front camera module located near the top frame.
  • It supports 4K 30fps video recording and features similar specs to the rear module.
  • Gently unplug it from the board without forcing the connector.

Take Out All Four Loudspeakers

  • Heat each speaker corner slightly to weaken adhesive holding them in place.
  • Use a plastic tool to carefully pry up each speaker from the bottom side.
  • Remove all four speakers and note their identical layout to the S8 Ultra.

Remove the Signal Antenna Board

  • Disconnect the signal antenna flex and gently pry the board off the frame.
  • Handle it carefully; it’s fragile and glued into place similar to the S8 Ultra.
  • This board handles wireless signals including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Remove the Charging Port Board

  • Pry out the USB Type-C charging board, which is adhered to the bottom of the frame.
  • Disconnect it from the mainboard via its sub-PBA flex cable.
  • Remove any residual adhesive from the charging port region.

Remove the SIM Reader

  • The SIM card reader is glued down, so apply slight heat and pry gently.
  • Once detached, pull it out completely from its slot in the frame.
  • Be careful not to bend the contacts or damage the flex.

Detach the Magnetic Keyboard Flex

  • Disconnect and remove the magnetic keyboard flex, sold separately from the tablet.
  • It’s a thin cable—handle gently to avoid tearing or folding it.
  • Clean any leftover adhesive from the frame if necessary.

Loosen the Battery Adhesive

  • Apply isopropyl alcohol around the battery edges and underneath to dissolve adhesive.
  • Pull gently on the pull tabs, if available, to help release the battery.
  • Use a wide plastic spudger to lift the battery once the adhesive is loose.

Remove the Battery

  • Remove the 11,200 mAh battery rated at 10,880 mAh (same as S8 Ultra).
  • Lift it slowly and avoid bending or puncturing it.
  • Place the battery in a static-free and safe area.

Inspect Internal Layout and Compare to S8 Ultra

  • Compare the internal layout—board design, battery size, and speaker locations—to the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.
  • Observe the three-board system: mainboard, sub-PBA, and charging port board.
  • Note any design updates, like overclocked CPU and refreshed cooling layout.

CONCLUSION:

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra teardown reveals a premium, high-performance device built with modular components and top-tier hardware. While similar to the S8 Ultra, it brings noticeable upgrades in display, processor, and internal layout. Its large AMOLED screen and high RAM make it ideal for multitasking and media consumption. However, certain components like the speakers and battery are strongly glued and require patience. Overall, the tablet is well-built and moderately repairable with the right tools and care.
